Stoned to the bone, Denver, CO
My friend tried to show me her wedding video
I knew what I was doing was bad for me
I couldn’t be the kind of person that I wanted to be
CHORUS:
I studied the crooks, I studied the kings
Studied the lines on the butterfly wings
Ooo baby, I wanna go home
Ooo baby, where’s my home?
I’ve been thinking about you a lot out here
The sun sets and you’re everywhere
I had a dream last night you were married to me
I woke up and I missed my family
CHORUS
March 13th, Memphis, TN
Ain’t you starting to wonder ‘bout me?
I hit the bridge right after the Arkansas flood
Wondering where the hell I was
I miss the Natchez Trace and being a kid
And all that stupid shit we did
You know they used to call it “The Devil’s Backbone?”
Ooo baby, I wanna go home

The best I've heard from Steve Earle in a while. The songs have a subtler, earthier tone, tastefully rendered in authentic sounding country/blues/bluegrass stylings. 'J.T' reminds of earlier records like 'Feel Alright' or 'Train a Comin'.
Deep grief, love and compassion is felt on the final track, the only composition from Steve, seemingly written for his son. The rest, composed by JT, do confirm what a great songwriter he really was. tideracer
Released in 2001, “The Convincer” is a gentle gem in the Nick Lowe catalog; an anniversary edition provides opportunity for rediscovery. Bandcamp New & Notable Sep 20, 2021
